PUNCHDOCS

A simpler QuickBooks alternative for small contractors

If you're a one-truck or small-crew contractor, you may not need full accounting software. PunchDocs covers estimates and invoices, and Pro adds simple Books so you know what you made and can hand your tax preparer one file.

Invoicing first

  • Estimates and invoices from your phone's browser, no app to install
  • Saved clients, items, and rates, so repeat work takes seconds
  • One tap turns an approved estimate into an invoice
  • Email it from PunchDocs with the PDF attached, or text a link, and see when your customer opens it
  • Record deposits and partial payments; the balance updates itself
  • Clean PDFs with your logo, license number, and payment instructions

Simple Books (Pro)

  • Expenses with contractor categories (Materials, Fuel, Tools, Subcontractors, and more), linked to a client, job, or invoice
  • Receipt photos taken with your phone right on the expense
  • Mileage log using the IRS standard mileage rate
  • Profit & loss for any month, quarter, year, or date range, as a page, PDF, or CSV
  • Tax-prep export: one ZIP with income, expenses, mileage, receipt photos, and a suggested Schedule C line for each category

What it's not

PunchDocs is not full accounting software. There's no bank or card syncing, no payroll, no double-entry ledger, and no inventory. You enter expenses yourself (it's quick with a receipt photo). Income comes straight from the payments you record on your invoices. If you need payroll, bank reconciliation, or an accountant working in the same books, QuickBooks or similar software is the better fit.

Price

Free to start. Pro is $9.99/month, price-locked while you stay subscribed, and you can cancel any time yourself.

Questions

Does PunchDocs connect to my bank?

No. There's no bank or card syncing. You add expenses yourself, with a receipt photo if you like, and income comes from the payments you record.

Can my tax preparer use it?

Yes. The tax-prep export is a ZIP with CSVs for income, expenses (with suggested Schedule C lines), mileage, a Schedule C summary, and your receipt photos. The Schedule C lines are suggestions, not tax advice.

Does it do payroll?

No. PunchDocs doesn't do payroll. You can log subcontractor payments as an expense.

Is PunchDocs really free?

Yes. The free plan includes 1 new invoice every 30 days and unlimited estimates, clients, and items, with no credit card. Pro is $9.99/month for unlimited invoices and the extras, and you can cancel any time yourself.
